"Butterfly Chrysalis Family Memorial Jewelry"
This unique and deeply sentimental piece of jewelry is not available for sale, as it holds precious family ashes, making it a truly irreplaceable heirloom. The creation of this piece was a journey of artistic exploration and experimentation. My ultimate goal was to re-purpose the jewelry I inherited into something that would remain timeless.
This piece kinda created its own shape? I didn't really know what I was doing, I just knew I wanted to do something. It ended up naturally taking on the form of a butterfly chrysalis, this design emerged organically during the creative process. Given the special symbolism of butterflies to my Mom and I, this transformation was serendipitous and meaningful.
The side butterflies were crafted from vintage .950 silver Japanese post earrings dating back to the 1940s, lovingly given a new life despite missing parts. The intricate filigree work at the top was skillfully fashioned from a 14k antique bar pin, creatively sawed in half and expertly soldered into place.
The green diamonds adorning the piece were salvaged from a ring that could not be worn due to its size and design. The chain itself comprises segments of an antique 14k white-gold watch chain, meticulously modified to suit this unique creation. The back of the piece showcases my own filigree work alongside elements from an antique filigree brooch.
The central feature of this remarkable piece is the antique .950 silver perfume bottle from the 1920s, its scent holes sealed and filled with cremains. These ashes are securely encapsulated behind the delicate filigree, making this jewelry a heartfelt tribute to cherished memories.
While not available for purchase, it still serves as an example of my skills and ability to breathe new life into sentimental treasures.
